As a Birmingham heirloom portrait photographer, there’s one question I am asked more than any other when it comes to children’s heirloom portraits. Chances are, you stumbled across this blog because you had the same question: What is the best age for these stunning, timeless portraits? While I don’t feel there’s one perfect age, the ideal ages are babies from sitting until they start walking and then ages 2-10.
As a mom of 3 littles myself, I realize just how quickly little ones grow. For that reason, the perfect age is the age that you want to capture most. I am very comfortable photographing wiggly children, so don’t let the wiggly age scare you. Do you want to capture your little one’s squishy cheeks before they’re gone? Let’s do it! 12-24 months can be a tricky age, but I have photographed plenty of running toddlers and am confident we can capture yours as well! There’s something special and noteworthy about every age, and each age deserves to be celebrated and photographed.
Maybe you absolutely love the sweet chunky “baby” stage right before your little one’s first birthday. Maybe you want to wait until your little one is a little older but before he or she loses the first tooth. I have photographed children from 7 months to 11, and I can tell you every stage is beautiful.
