An in-home lifestyle newborn session is a portrait session that takes place in the comfort of your own home. These sessions generally take place sometime within the first eight weeks of birth. The goal of lifestyle newborn photography is to capture natural and authentic moments that tell the story of the baby’s early days. The focus is on your newborn and the love and connection within your family.

One of the main benefits of an in-home lifestyle newborn photography session is the comfort and convenience it provides. Your home is a familiar environment where you and your family are most comfortable. You don’t have to worry about packing up all the necessary items for a studio session or worry about the logistics of getting everyone there. Additionally, with a lifestyle Birmingham newborn photography session, you can capture images of your baby’s first moments in his/her nursery.

What to expect during an in-home lifestyle newborn photography session

During your lifestyle newborn photography session, I will capture natural and candid moments of your family interacting with your new baby. Unlike traditional posed newborn photography, there is no need to worry about getting your baby to sleep. Instead, the focus is on capturing authentic moments and emotions among family members. I use [mostly] natural light and minimal props to create a cozy and natural atmosphere. I love natural light and will always gravitate toward the rooms in your home with the best light. Don’t be surprised if I ask you to take photos in your gorgeous all-white kitchen. I love being creative and utilizing beautiful spaces in your home. We can also head outside to photograph family photos on your porch or in your yard.

It is important to keep in mind that your lifestyle Birmingham newborn photography session will take longer than a traditional portrait session. I generally allow one and a half to two hours for your session. This time includes time to feed and change Baby as needed throughout our session.

Types of Photos to Expect From your In-Home Lifestyle Newborn Session

Most, if not all, families want at least 1 traditional image of everyone looking at the camera. So, we will absolutely prioritize that. I will also capture images of Baby alone, with each parent, with parents together, and with siblings. We will use your Baby’s crib, a moses basket, and other beautiful furniture throughout your home. Because newborns change so quickly, I will photograph close-up details of Baby’s face and tiny hands and feet.

You will often hear me ask you to snuggle, kiss, and nuzzle your baby. Let’s be real–whenever the camera isn’t around, that’s what I would find you doing. I want to capture real authentic moments between you and your baby. These are the ones that capture the real, raw emotion and love among family members. In addition, these images are guaranteed to make your heart skip a beat whenever you look at them.
